Island Biology Interest Group

I am a recent Postdoctoral researcher in the “Universidade Federal de Goias”, Goiania, Goias, Brazil. I belong to the Ecology Department, “, Instituto de Ciencias Biológicas”, also teaching in the postgraduate course “Ecología y Evolución” (https://www.ecoevol.ufg.br). The title of my current research project is “Biological invasions in lentic freshwaters under global environmental change”, fitting the effect of the exotic species under a framework of global change with the invertebrate assemblages of lentic ecosystems, through the use of systematic review and meta-analyse.

I have been a three-year Postdoctoral researcher in the University of Azores (Portugal), in the Azorean Biodiversity Group (CITA-A), “Departamento de Ciências Agrárias”, Angra do Heroísmo, Azores, Portugal, in collaboration with the “Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales”, CSIC, Spain. During this period, I have studied the effect of the land-use change and the exotic species on the invertebrate assemblages of oceanic islands, in the Azores archipelago. During my PhD (December, 2010), I become a specialist in the aquatic invertebrate assemblages of lentic ecosystems, especially in the temporary ponds of the Doñana National Park (SW of Spain), obtaining the maximum qualification and the European Mention. In total, I have 26 publications in scientific journals, being 19 included in ISI journals from which, I am first author of 10 of these publications. We have also just published a book about the Doñana temporary ponds, being author in four chapters. I have also supervised students and I am currently supervising other students, I have participated in research projects, I have participated in 19 congresses (10 international), I have acquired teaching experience in the University of Azores, I have acted as external reviewer in a PhD thesis and in research and Postdoctoral projects, and finally, I have acted as invited reviewer in 14 different ISI journals: Journal of Natural History, International Review of Hydrobiology, Oecologia, Acta Oecologica, Hydrobiologia (2), Freshwater Science, Marine and Freshwater Research, Insect Conservation and Diversity, Annales de Limnologie - International Journal of Limnology, Limnology, Biodiversity and Conservation, PLOS ONE (2), Journal of Biogeography and Animal Biodiversity and Conservation.
